Church group protests high school play

Those wacky folks from the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas are at it again. This past Saturday they protested the presentation of a high school play entitled The Laramie Project at the Southridge High School in Beaverton, Oregon. The play, which chronicles the 1998 murder of Matthew Sheppard in Wyoming, has been banned from being performed in other schools around the country.
Carrying their trademark signs “America Is Doomed,” and “God Hates You”, the 7 members of Fred Phelps’ congregation ended up going toe-to-toe with over a hundred student counter-protesters as they were staging their 45 minute demonstration across from the school.
It’s good to know that the youth of this country see through this kind of bigotry. And what’s even more encouraging is the polls continue to show that homosexuality and sexual orientation is not an issue of importance to the young people of America. Of course, what that means to the more tolerant folks of this nation is that we just have to wait just a few more years before these clowns die off and take their outdated ideology with them.
