Indiana Democrat Julia Carson, who revealed last week that she was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, announced on Monday that she would not seek re-election to her post as the Hoosier State’s first elected African American congresswoman. Aides close to Ms. Carson say that while she is currently hospitalized, her intention is to return to Washington to complete her current term, which runs through 2008.
