Free Man
By Thomas JeffreyArticle Posted: Saturday December 1, 2007
Russian opposition leader Gary Kasparov is a free man after being released from prison after spending 5 days behind bars for protesting against the government of Vladimir Putin. The former chess champion is calling the upcoming elections within that country “a farce” and laments the inability of either himself or anyone else to mount a challenge against Mr. Putin’s omnipotence. Ironically, Mr. Kasparov was jailed for leading a demonstration against the former Soviet Union’s increasingly repressive moves against a citizen’s right to seek redress against the Russian government.
