Good Night, Not So Funny Man

Former Republican Representative Henry Hide passed away this past Thursday at the age of 83. The former chairman of the House Judiciary Committee became the public face of Congress’ impeachment proceedings against former President Bill Clinton but failed to convince his Senate colleagues to follow the House’s passage of articles of impeachment against the 42nd president. An anti-abortion activist, Mr. Hyde was often maligned by pro-choice groups for his amendment to a 1976 appropriations bill that prohibited federal funding for abortions. That amendment has served as a rally-point for Right-to-Lifers ever since.
