Smoke And Mirrors

The government of Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday that it had rounded up and arrested some 208 people that were suspected of being conspirators with Al Qaeda and were planning attacks within the country on several oil facilities as well plotting to take out both clerics and government security forces. The move by the middle eastern nation, which has a somewhat contradictory record when it comes to terrorism, is being viewed by some critics as an attempt to draw attention away from the world-wide outrage over the conviction by its courts of a 19 year-old woman who was sentenced to 6 months in prison and 200 lashings for being alone in a car with a man other than her husband. The young lady was subsequently kidnapped and raped by four men, who abducted both her and her former boyfriend from within their car, while they were meeting to exchange personal effects.
