That's My Story And I'm Sticking To It

By Thomas Jeffrey Article Posted: Sunday December 9, 2007

The big story this week was the disclosure of a top secret intelligence assessment that Iran was not seeking, nor have they been seeking for several years, the attainment of a nuclear weapon. The bombshell came on Monday in the form of a National Intelligence Estimate that unequivocally stated the opinion of the nation’s 16 intelligence agencies who all agreed that the government of Iran halted is pursuit of nuclear arms back in 2003.

The report declared with what it called “high-confidence” that the Iranian program was idle and had been halted due to increased international scrutiny and pressure — the very thing that the White House has refused to believe until now has had any effect on that middle-eastern government’s motivations.

The only thing more shocking than the Iran NIE was the White House’s reaction to it; illustrating once again how completely single-mindedly this administration pursues a course of action no matter how much factual or empirical information runs counter to it.

The first attempt at spinning the news to the administration’s benefit came in the form of a speech by national security adviser Stephen Hadley, who tried to use the report as justification for their recent saber-rattling against Tehran due to the fact that Iran was trying to pursue nuclear weapons technology over 4 years ago.

Next came the Smirking POTUS, who charged the Iran was, is, and will be a dangerous loose cannon on the middle eastern stage unless it is dealt with; choosing instead to almost completely ignore the fact that the rug has been nearly pulled out from underneath Vice President Dick Cheney’s wet dream of starting yet another war before leaving office in January of 2009.

But what these events really illustrate for me, ladies and gentlemen, is just how much we really need to elect a president who is capable of changing his or her mind in light of contradictory findings. There is a distinct difference between confidence and arrogance. And in order for this nation to get beyond the past 6 years of being lead by a 61-year old man trying to work out both his life-long daddy issues and feelings of ineptitude.

This Leftwing Nutjob just hopes that this nation’s voters will evaluate their candidate’s willingness to reassess their decisions as well as their ability to lead.
