Too Little, Too Late

In an eerie coda to the CIA interrogation tape revelation, a congressional committee has voted to force CIA personnel to abide by the interrogation techniques outlined in the Army Field Manual, essentially the very same rules that all other members of the Armed Forces adhere to for the questioning of prisoners of war. The measure passed by only one vote, and would still need to be reconciled between both the House and Senate before facing a threatened presidential veto. However, the measure does stand as the first concerted effort at closing a loophole that has existed since the 2005 Detainee Treatment Act was subjugated by the the Smirking POTUS’ executive order, which absolved CIA personnel from having to follow the field manual guidelines.
