In a follow-up to last week’s story, the House of Representatives, against the treat of yet another presidential veto, passed a bill on Thursday that would outlaw most of the more controversial interrogation methods that have been used by the CIA in the war on terror. The bill, which passed 222 to 199 in a vote almost entirely along party lines, would limit all US interrogators to using only those methods prescribed in the US Army Field Manual, and would expressly prohibit the use of techniques like waterboarding. The White House has stated that the president would veto the bill due to the fact that while the Smirking POTUS states that America does not torture, the bill would “prevent the president from taking the lawful actions necessary to protect Americans from attack in wartime.”
