All Your Logs Belong To US

In what must be seeming like déjà vu all over again for the Bush Administration, yet another federal judge has found fault with White House claims of executive privilege, this time with regards to the withholding of visitor logs maintained by the US Secret Service.
The ruling handed down earlier this month by Judge Royce Lamberth found that the Administration’s assertion that logs created, used and relied upon by the Secret Service where under the White House control was flat out wrong and stated that the visitor logs were not subject to the same protections afforded to presidential documents.
Judge Lamberth also challenged the legality of a 2006 agreement between the White House and the Secret Service which sought to retroactively keep the logs shielded from Freedom of Information requests in perpetuity, which was drafted after several lawsuits seeking their disclosure began making their way through the courts.
The White House is expected to appeal the ruling.
