Fire!

Armchair Conspiracy theorists and political bloggers alike have had a field day since a fire broke out two weeks ago in Vice President Dick Cheney’s ceremonial suite in the Eisenhower Office Building. The 130-plus year old office complex, situated at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and 17th Street in Washington, D.C., has long served as a second White House for both sitting presidents and vice-presidents and contains priceless antique furniture and ornate wood floors. Initial reports stated that the fire started within an electrical or phone closet close to the vice president’s suite, though Uncle Dick wasn’t in residence at the time. Officials reported that the building sustained both fire and smoke damage to several offices but that there were no serious injuries.
