Blowed Up

DAMASCUS — A powerful car bomb exploded in an upscale neighborhood of Syria’s capital on Wednesday, damaging at least 10 vehicles and destroying the luxury SUV of one Imad Mugniyah, killing the terrorist mastermind and sending him to meet his 99 virgins in the afterlife.
It was a poetic end to a man who had masterminded some of the most blatant and bloody terrorist acts over the past 25 years, including the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon in 1983 and the hijacking of TWA flight 847 in 1985. At one time, the United States government had placed a $25 million bounty on his head but never came close to capturing him. Hezbollah, the terrorist organization of whom Mr. Mugniyah was a card carrying member, declared Thursday a national day of mourning in his honor.
Mr. Mugniyah, who was rumored to have had plastic surgery to help conceal his identity and avoid capture, was believed to have spent the past several years laying low in extremist vacation spots like Tehran, Beirut, and Damascus, and had a teflon-reputation of being untouchable.
Isreal’s Mossad was, understandably, unavailable to this podcaster for comment.
