It appears that Senator Hillary Clinton’s ego is writing checks her body can’t cash. According to campaign finance records as well as sources close to her presidential campaign, several of Mrs. Clinton’s bills have gone unpaid, including invoices for some of her high-priced campaign advisors like Mark Penn and vendors around the country that have staged campaign events for the Democratic presidential candidate.
And in an ironic twist, it is being reported that health care premiums for some of Mrs. Clinton’s staffers have also gone unpaid—a undoubtedly embarrassing revelation for a presidential candidate who has made universal healthcare the centerpiece of her campaign.
The Clinton campaign, which has been dealing with cash flow problems since before Iowa, are maintaining that nearly all of the delinquent accounts have long since been paid and that the campaign is now flush with it creditors. But time will tell if this is another tall tale as the deadline for the next campaign finance report is only one week away — a report that will undoubtedly be scrutinized for clues as to the just how bad the bleeding is for the Clinton campaign.
