Off The Bus

Another wheel came off Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign this past Sunday with the resignation of Mark Penn, her campaign’s chief strategist and, according to FEC records, her top campaign creditor.
Mr. Penn had become increasingly embroiled in controversy over the past few days after it was revealed that he had met with the Columbian government in his professional capacity as a lobbyist to help secure passage of a controversial trade treaty — a treaty that Mrs. Clinton has stated repeatedly on the stump that she strongly opposes. Mr. Penn is also a longtime friend of Clintons, but his choice of clients — especially the wwcontroversial Iraqi contractor Blackwater International — has left many within the Senator’s campaign less than enthusiastic about his involvement.
The resignation comes at a bad time for the Clinton campaign with only two weeks remaining before the Pennsylvania primary — a contest that could serve to be a watershed moment for her candidacy if a victory for her there is anything but decisive.
