John McCain and his poltical advisors are probably kicking themselves after a boneheaded decision by that campaign to attempt paint their opponent Barack Obama as complicit in the ongoing mortgage scandal has come back to bite them in the ass.

After asserting this past weekend Mr. Obama is taking campaign advice from a one Franklin Raines — who was once a chief executive with Fannie Mae — several current as well as former employees of that organization, as well as Freddie Mac, are hitting back.

Rick Davis, Mr. McCain’s longtime personal adviser and current campaign manager, was apparently “very active” in attempting to maintain the status quo with regards to the very same mortgage lending practices that have landed the US economy in the crapper when he served as the president of the Homeownership Alliance — an advocacy group for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. While employed by the mortgage giants, Mr. Davis collected some $35,000 a month just for being able to provide access to his boss, a certain Senator John McCain, and ostensibly, legislative influence.

Ladies and gentleman, this Leftwing Nutjob knows that neither candidate is completely clean when it comes to lobbyists and their influence on both campaigns, but this latest attempt by the pot calling the kettle black just smacks of plain old desperation to me.

Mr. McCain knows he’s going to take a major hit over the coming weeks when the rest of this hits the fan. You’d think that his campaign would have a little more discipline than this.
