By His Own Hand

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s items like this that really make my job as your Leftwing Nutjob soooo easy; a Republican Gubernatorial candidate caught red-handed, honestly expressing his extreme Conservative views completely unfettered and unfiltered by political handlers.
I am talking of course about Bob McDonnell — who is currently running for governor of the state of Virginia — and his 93-page Master’s thesis-cum-tirade against “cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators” as well as working women and feminists.
Read: “The Republican Party’s Vision for the Family: The Compelling Issue of The Decade”
And while Mr. McDonnell is dismissing this revelation about his past viewpoints as so much political mud-slinging by his Democratic opponent Senator R. Creigh Deeds, the fact remains that he sought to enact several of his more extreme viewpoints into law shortly after his election into the Virginia House of Delegates.
Make no mistake about it, dear readers; Mr. McDonnell is a poster boy for the what I am calling The New GOP.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Proving again that the Republican Party can talk the talk, but can definitely not walk the walk, yet another one of their ranks has come forward and admitted to some extramarital hanky-panky — this time with a former campaign aid. But the ladies and gentlemen, the story doesn’t appear end there.
Nevada Senator John Ensign, married with three children, hastily called a news conference this past Tuesday on his home turf of Las Vegas, Nevada, to acknowledge an affair with a then-unnamed female staffer (The woman in question has since been identified as Cynthia Hampton, who worked as treasurer in a couple of election/political committees for the good Senator). Mr. Ensign stated that he took full responsibility for his actions and that the entire ordeal has taken an incredible personal toll on his family. But the devil, as they say, is in the details.
Since Tuesday, several news organizations — some reputable and some not so much — have been reporting on a possible bribery angle to this entire bruhaha, with Mrs. Hampton’s husband, who also worked for Senator Ensign as a senior aid, pumping the Nevada Congressman for hush money so that they could continue to afford their plush digs in an exclusive gated community in suburbs of Sin City.
But the real elephant in the room with regards to Senator Ensign’s admitted behavior is his holier-than-thou image that he careful crafted throughout his career in Washington, D.C., starting with his admonishment of former president Bill Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky matter to his recent tirades against gay marriage, stauchly arguing for the “preservation of the most important structure in our society.”
Now, after having resigned his leadership post within the GOP, the next question is whether or not Mr. Ensign’s political career can survive the almost guaranteed forthcoming revelations surrounding this burgeoning scandal. As for this Leftwing Nutjob, I predict that Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons with be busy appointing a new state senator by the end of the summer.

President Obama announced today his nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to replace the retiring Justice David Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court. But not long before the echo had died from the microphones on the White House podium, the Right Wing attack machine was in full gear, led by former Republican presidential candidate turned media attention whore Mitt Romney.
Yes, Mitt Romney.
And while that sinks into your subconscious and haunts your dreams, HTSNBN chimed in as well, calling Ms. Sotomayor a “reverse racist” and a “hack”, having obviously analyzed all of her opinions over her 20-plus year career in order to make such a well-informed judgment call.
But perhaps the most surprising development with regards to Ms. Sotomayor’s announcement was the decidedly civil and respectful tone set by Michael Steele, chairman of the RNC, as well as other Congressional Republicans who have adopted a “wait and see” approach to her nomination.
This is just the beginning, folks. Get ready for wild ride.

One of the few things that brings a smile to my face these days as I bear witness to the evisceration of my beloved Motor City is the daily drama that has become the Grand Old Party.
With the dawn of each new morning I find comfort in the assertions of Michael Steele that he truly is the leader of the GOP and the one most qualified to guide his party on its mission to inform the American people; that President Obama, the Democrats in Congress, Senator Arlen Spector ad infinitum have no idea what it is that they’re doing with Iraq, Guantanamo, the Economy, etc.
Then comes the afternoon, when He That Shall Not Be Named chimes in on his daily syndicated rant fest, contending that the moderates of the Republican Party are solely to blame for the misfortunes of the last two elections. This is usually followed by a comment or two that puts Mr. Steele on the defensive, forcing either the chairman himself or some other bootlicker within the party to hastily arrange a statement before the nightly news hour, aimed at correcting the pronouncements of HTSNBN and reasserting the leadership of Mr. Steele.
And then, of course, between the hours of 6:00PM and 8:00PM EST, someone within the GOP will get a call from Florida, forcing yet another surrogate to be marched out before the cable network political talking heads in an effort to “revise” the earlier message from Mr. Steele, adding even more confusion to the days events but elevating the comedic drama that is the Republican Party to even greater heights, much to the joy of this Leftwing Nutjob.
When it comes right down to it, I really am a man of simple pleasures.

Another gay sex scandal appears poised to rock the GOP, as another homophobic, anti-gay Republican Congressman gets arrested as he is caught with his pants down in a men’s restroom, allegedly for soliciting sex from a plainclothes Minneapolis police officer.
Larry Craig, a seventeen-year member of the US Senate from the great state of Idaho, was arrested on June 11 for lewd behavior and plead guilty earlier this month to one charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. He was summarily fined $500. The senator was also sentenced to 10-day stay in the pokey, something that Mr. Craig may have even enjoyed, but the judge in the case stayed that portion of his sentence.
The charges stem from an incident described by arresting officer Sgt. Dave Karsnia in which Craig approached a bathroom stall occupied by the officer and made several attempts to make contact with the man inside. Sgt. Karsnia, dressed in plain clothes and investigating reports of homosexual liaisons in men’s restrooms at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, reported that Mr. Craig engaged in several well-known homosexual pick-up signals, including the tapping of his right foot, as an indication that he was interested in pursuing a gay liaison.
Rollcall.com, the beltway’s newspaper for all things Capital Hill, broke the story late Monday afternoon, and reported that while Mr. Craig plead guilty to the charges, he is now claiming that his guilty plea was made under duress and that he did not understand the nature of the charges against him.
The Idaho Senator, who faces a re-election fight next year, was also allegedly under investigation in the original congressional page scandal back in 1982, a charge that Mr. Craig denies. The Idaho senator has also been recently accused of being secretly homosexual by the author of a gay activist blog just last year, allegations that undoubtedly put his membership in conservative organizations like American Family Association, Concerned Women for America and the Family Research Council in jeopardy.
